Extra services for the Adelaide Hills

From Monday 29 January 2024, the T840 bus route will be available every 15 minutes each weekday, between 9am and 3pm. To support this change, an extra 36 bus services will be added to the network during the weekday interpeak between Mount Barker and the city.

From Sunday 4 February 2024, the 864F service will have increased services on Sundays, with buses available every 30 minutes between approximately 7am and 6pm. To support this change, an additional 26 services will be introduced to provide the same frequency as Saturdays.

As part of this $19 million election commitment, 15 new hybrid-diesel buses are expected to join the fleet this year  – offering a quieter, more comfortable and accessible ride.

The delivery of these new buses will then support the introduction of a new weekday Go Zone, with buses running via the South Eastern Freeway every 6 minutes in peak periods and at least every 15 minutes from 7am to 7pm.

Once changes have been implemented, Adelaide Hills residents will benefit from an additional 104 services each weekday, 22 on Saturdays and 48 on Sundays – representing an increase of 590 trips each week or 42 per cent more services.

Feedback gathered during the Mount Barker and Adelaide Hills Transport Study has helped to inform these service changes, with the State Government also committing $6 million towards the upgrade and delivery of additional parking at the Crafers Park ‘n’ Ride facility.

The following bus routes have updated timetables:

Hills

• 820, 821, 822 – includes new Stop I1 on Wakefield Street.
• 865 and 866 – route 823 added to this timetable.

East West

• 100 and 101 – 100B trip at 3:40pm has been removed. Alternative services available.
• W90 and W91 – stop 12 Winston Avenue – west side timepoint has changed.
• 147, 170 and 172 – stop K1 Hutt Street timepoint changed to Stop L1 Hutt Road.

Outer North East

• 542, 556, 557 and 559 – stop 52 North East Road – north side timepoint has changed.

Journeys for the following school bus routes have updated start and end times to reflect updated school hours for 2024:

Extra school buses

An extra 16 new hybrid-diesel buses will be rolled out across the Adelaide Metro network over the next three years, supporting Riverbanks College, Aldinga Payinthi College and Morialta Secondary College.

Services for Aldinga Payinthi College and Morialta Secondary College will be introduced from the start of Term 1 on Monday 29 January 2024. Two of these will provide Morialta Secondary College with its first dedicated bus routes since it opened last year.

These additional services are initially targeting recently opened schools in areas where student enrolment and demand is expected to grow. These new services will be able to expand and be redirected to other locations to relieve any strain on the network.

Morialta Secondary College

Bus routes 620 and 621 will provide two morning and two evening services to transfer students between the Paradise Interchange and Morialta College, with an additional two services being rolled out along the route in 2026 to keep up with expected enrolments.

Aldinga Payinthi College

Route 787, will be introduced to transfer students between the school and Sellicks Beach. By 2026, an additional four services will be added to the route.

Riverbanks College

Starting in 2025, extra 489 services will be introduced, transferring students to Smithfield and Munno Para interchanges.

The total number of daily services across these three schools will increase from six currently to 15 by 2026.

While the new buses are manufactured and rolled out, these services will continue to be maintained by leased buses.

The construction of all 16 Scania buses, worth around $11.75 million, will be carried out by South Australian company BusTech, supporting local jobs and backing the industry.
